Andersonís Awarding Winning Wines - 2014

Click to enlargeOver 2,200 wines were recently entered into one of the nationís largest wine competitions, the Indy International Wine Competition. Held at Purdue University in August, the competition had wines from 40 states and 11 countries including France, Australia, Spain and Greece. Wines were judged on appearance, aroma, taste and aftertaste by 45 international judges.

Four wines entered by Carnell Mitchell, Winemaker at Andersonís Vineyard & Winery in Valparaiso, received medals. Earning gold medals were Red Diamond Red Wine and Raspberry Kiss; bronze medals, Ravat 51 and Remember Me.

Carnell, who has over 25 years of winemaking experience, has been the winemaker at Andersonís for the past four. This was his first time entering wines into a competition, whether as an amateur winemaker or at the commercial level.

Carnell is committed to the production of notable wines, many of which are crafted from grapes from Andersonís vineyard. The location of the vineyard, which sits atop the highest point in Porter County, and the clay-sandy soil are ideally suited to produce healthy vines and fruits. Nine wine grape varieties, including Vignoles, grow within the 14 acres of vines. His bronze winner, Ravat 51, is developed from the Vignoles grape.
